Robert Norman Munsch was born on June 11, 1945 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He was the second of nine children. His father was a steelworker and his mother was a homemaker. Munsch attended Fordham University in New York City, where he earned a bachelor's degree in history in 1968. He then went on to earn a master's degree in anthropology from Boston University in 1971.

Career

Munsch began his career as a teacher in 1971. He taught at a variety of schools in the United States and Canada, including the University of Guelph in Ontario.
