Oct. 26—ROCHESTER — Jane Belau officially signed off as host of her eponymous Rochester public affairs show this week after conducting her last interview, ending her show's 50-year run.
Belau said she will miss doing "The Belau Report," but she had just turned 90 and the time seemed right to step down, one person telling her that "You should always go out on top."
"We had a good run," said her producer, Guy Hamernik, after Belau finished her last taped interview, with Rochester City Council President candidate Shaun Palmer in Rochester Community and Technical College's media center.
For such a low-budget show, Belau punched well above its weight class, snagging a glittering roster of political figures during her five-decade career that included presidents and presidential candidates, foreign leaders, congressional and legislative figures, governors and mayors and city council members and county commissioners.
